The Unions aren’t one of the fastest teams in vintage base ball, but their sticks have usually made up for their speed. On Saturday in a sweep by the St. Louis Perfectos, that didn’t appear to be the case as the P’s gave the Unions a taste of their own medicine and more in a day that the Jefferson Barracks NIne were fine with washing away with the second game thunderstorms that moved in….despite setbacks like this, everything usually turns out to be OK….it’s base ball and it’s a long season….you are going to have those days where nothing goes right..
On Sunday, everything did turn out to be OK again as the Unions rallied for a sweep over the Vermillion (IL) Voles, 9-5 and 11-4….leading the striking in game one for the JB Nine was Mayhem (3-for-5, triple, run, 2 RBIs) and Part-Time (4-for-5, run, RBI)….the Voles were led by Carolina (5-for-5, home run, double, 3 RBIs). The Voles put up some solid defense and well as some solid striking overall to keep the game close….in game two, Lefty (6-for-6), triple, 4 runs, 2 RBIs) and Scoops (5-for-6, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs) led the Unions at the dish on top of some clockwork defense by both clubs throughout….the two wins improve the Unions record to 14-7-1 as we approach the midway point of the season.
Next up for the JB Nine will be their first trip of the season to Emmenegger Park to face the St. Louis Brown Stockings in a doubleheader….game time is 11am.
