(KIRKWOOD, MO) AUG 10, 2013 The Unions improved their record to 22-8 with a doubleheader sweep of the Lafayette Square Cyclone on Saturday afternoon….it was the first action for the boys from Jefferson Barracks since a trip-ending loss to St. Croix (MN) in Rockford, MN on 7/28.

The Unions are a hard-fought 4-0 against a tough Cyclone Nine this season….the JB Nine scored an 8-7 come-from-behind win in the opener, plating a walkoff ace in the bottom of the ninth….Jeremy ‘Zippy’ Hunter went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, run, and 2 RBIs, while the Unions also received key offensive contributions from Tony ‘Huck’ LaBarge (1-for-3, run, home run, 3 RBIs), Mike ‘Part-Time’ Ashley (3-for-4, double, run, RBI), and Bryce ‘Speedy’ LaBarge (3-for-3, run, RBI)….game two saw a first in a while with a game between the JB Nine and Cyclone decided by 8 aces….the Unions prevailed in this one with a 10-2 victory….leading the JB Nine strikers sprint around the bases was Zippy (5-for-5, double, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Matt ‘Mayhem’ Moushey (5-for-5, 3 runs, RBI), Huck (5-for-5, double, run, RBI), and Brian ‘Ricochet’ Robison (3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs).

Unions hurler Randall ‘Slug” Richard made quick work of the Cyclone in game 2 having a four pitch inning.

Zippy was the Unions official ‘Striker-of-the-Day’, while Mayhem and Zippy both shared ‘Defensive-Ballist-of-the-Day’ honors….the Unions will aim to keep up their success on the road next Saturday afternoon in a 1pm doubleheader against the Murphysboro (IL) Clarkes in Murphysboro, IL….
